This
organization acts to make the local and area communities aware
of issues surrounding the GLBTQ community here at home and
outside of Kirksville. It serves as a liaison between
Kirksville, KCOM, Truman faculty/staff, Truman Alumni, and the
student GLBTQA organizations in the community.
Annually, LAMBDA donates time & raises money to help with
diversity events in the community, support Truman's Gay &
Lesbian Scholarship offered to students actively involved with
GLBTQ issues, and hold special social events throughout the
year. Some of these events include the Red Barn Arts Festival,
Lobby Day at Jefferson City with PROMO, and the annual Pink
Picnic in July.
LAMBDA
also gives local residents and students assistance by answering questions
about the GLBTQ community, explaining GLBTQ activism, offering
GLBTQ courses at Truman, and maintaining local resources
regarding sexual orientation and GLBTQ issues.
Many members of LAMBDA have been through a SAFE ZONE training
provided by the Truman University Counseling Services, and help
residents & students feel comfortable in their adjustment to
Kirksville by
serving as resources and connecting them with members of
the GLBTQA community. |
